How to replace tumble dryer belt on Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda and Proline
Here is a step by step guide of the process:
How to replace tumble dryer belt Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda, Proline
If you’re Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda or Proline tumble dryer is not drying? If the drum in your dryer no longer rotates or turns, the chances are your drum-belt may have snapped or worn.
This video will show you How to replace a tumble dryer belt in a Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, Creda or Proline machine with the belt which is a 9 rib stretch tumble dryer drive belt Contitech 144001958 9PHE 1860
- Safety first! Unplug the machine from the wall-socket and make sure the machine is cool.
- Remove the top cover of the machine by undoing the 2 screws at the back of the top panel.
- You should now be able to see if the belt is broken or not.
- Now follow the steps in the video to replace the belt all the models are listed below which this video is good for.
The trick to fitting the belt is to hold the belt with the tube that i show you in the video with your left hand as shown, and with your other hand, push the drum clockwise until you can get the belt to loop over the motor shaft pulley.
Once this is in place, the hard work is over. Rotate the drum slowly by hand to make sure the belt is able to travel unhindered and line up on the pulley wheel correctly. Now is your chance to hoover [vacuum] out the machine! Reconnect the panels and test machine.

Thanks just replaced my dryer’s belt, but it was really hard for me to put
the belt onto the motor. Because I didnt have the pipe you have on your
video. Where can I buy this pipe? Thanks!
thanks guys that was perfect
Fantastic Video, Really useful, clear and accurate. It has helped me
loads. Top Notch Stuff 🙂
Thanks for the video. I just repaired mine and the two difficulties I had
was getting the new belt onto the motor (even with a tube) and lining up
the vent tunnel. I had to remove the other panel to help align it. Took me
about an hour to do. You professionals make it look so easy!
Thanks guys what a great help this was .
Great video… now have a working dryer again 🙂 thanks
Great video, very well done. I learned a lot just by watching. My question
is that I have an older model, around 2000-2001, cant read any of the
numbers on the unit to be more specific for you. I’m praying that the belt
will have readable numbers, but do you have a video for the older models of
Hotpoint.
Many thanks for your video! Have managed to get the belt back on but when
reassembling it looks like the drum is sitting towards the back and doesn’t
spin easily? What have I done wrong? Thanks.
hi Joe it sounds like you have not got the drum on the front bearings or
felt correctly
Very good video really usefull however you stated that its a good idea to
check the rear bearing at the same time which I agree with seeing as this
is also a major cause of the belt snapping due to drum jamming but you
didn’t show this in the video
My belt won’t stretch far
Would love to see you take a crack at the indesit etc condenser dryer belt.
One of the worst Jobs ever I think. The latest one took me nearly 90
minutes today. What a heap!!
followed this video step by step and managed to change the belt on my
TVM570 dryer, working well but next day the drum started squeaking, only
happens once the dryer has heated up, any suggestions would be great?? keep
up the good work cheers 🙂
hi thankyou you saved me £200 it took me 15 mins thanks to your pipe trick
(my belt was 6mm smaller than it should have been but still worked) clothes
drying as i type. thanks.
Great video – concise, easy to follow, got my dryer repaired repaired
quickly following advice on this video. Thank you very much 🙂
Fantastic guide. thank you so much!! especially at 6 o’clock in the morning
and with uniforms to dry!!
P.S Got you a Stella in :0)
Thanks saved me a few quid . The belt on mine was a little tighter than the
one shown but managed to do it the way you showed.
Cheers.
Excellent! But now that I am into it, does the groove side of the belt go
on the drum? There are two sides – one smooth and the other with ridges.
It appears from the video that the ridges go down, but…? Also, my belt
is a good 3 cm shorter than the broken used belt. I do hope it stretches
the 7-8 cm to the motor spindle and that it does not wreck the machine if
it is too tight. Yes, I verified the codes and models. We shall see.
Thanks for everything.
Hi have followed all instructions and manage to fit new belt and put back
together but when I came to test it it just bleeped at me when I pressed
the start button. All the lights are on but just will not start. It was
definitely the belt as it had snapped, so was not turning but was heating
up and the fan was going so I have obviously done something to it when
putting it back together? Help!!!

Thank you so much. Totally saved a fortune and just fit new belt myself. No
more over loading for me.
where can i get an engineer to do this for me in the croydon area?
Thanks for this tutorial. You saved me a lot of money, time and effort.
Your trick with the tube and taking the side off was the winner. I’d
managed just about everything else but stretching the belt over the motor
had defeated me.
Fantastic tutorial, so easy to follow, the step by step was so simple and
as mentioned before, saved a fortune. Many thanks and keep up the great
guides.
The belt does take a few minutes to get right and the grooves correspond to
the drive, so really obvious.
